Make your voice heard on April 4!

Please join more than 4,000 fellow Texas Catholics on April 4 at the State Capitol, as we witness as faithful citizens! Adults, and middle school and high school students will be participating in events, including visiting legislators, praying with our bishops and attending a rally on the south steps of the Capitol. Contact your local diocesan offices for more information, or sign up for our Texas Catholic Network at www.txcatholic.org.

Prayer for the Legislature

Today, January 10, Bishop Daniel Garcia has the honor of offering the benediction for the Texas House opening ceremony at the Texas Legislature. The bishops have provided this tradition for more than a decade, and you can watch online; the opening ceremony begins at noon.

Other prayers happen on a regular basis throughout the session. This year, Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. and his staff have invited Catholics from throughout the state to join them in praying the rosary, using Facebook Livestream. The rosary is offered at 8 a.m. every Wednesday, beginning January 18, through the end of the session.

Anniversary of Roe v. Wade activities

A modern adaptation of an ancient Catholic prayer allows people to prepare spiritually for the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States, Roe v. Wade. The nine day prayer, titled "9 Days for Life," is organized by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Texas Catholic Pro-Life Day falls on the second to last day of the novena, on Jan. 28. On that Saturday, Catholics from around the state will gather at the state Capitol for prayer and many will participate in the Texas Rally for Life. The TCCB is a member of the host committee and Bishop Joe Vasquez will offer prayer at the rally.

Support Parental Choice

On Tuesday, January 24, more than 600 students and adults will be gathering at the Texas Capitol to advocate for parental choiceTwenty years ago, one state had parental choice. Today, half of all states and the District of Columbia provide funding so that students in public schools can transfer to private schools. In the states that have established these programs, student performance improves because parents can customize an education to meet to their child’s unique and evolving needs. Unfortunately, Texas does not have a parental choice program.
