Parental choice

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, The Texas Tribune hosted an hour-long discussion with Rep. Dan Huberty, who serves as chairman of the House Public Education Committee. In the exchanges, Huberty vehemently opposed parental choice, asking, “Why don’t we talk about the real issues?” When the moderator asked if there is a way to establish choice in Texas, even if it’s not exactly what the Senate does through ESAs, Huberty replied: “the House believes there is choice today.” Regardless, the TCCB will continue to work to establish a parental choice program for students with the greatest academic and financial need by gathering support for tax credit scholarships in the House.
